Hey there once again,
I was interviewed today by CHMR FM St. John's Radio Host Nami Ohara. The talk dealt primarily with games in education, and was part of a series on my GDC attendance, as well as the upcoming Aldrich Conference this next month.
You can catch CHMR online at www.chmr.ca, though the interview is not currently available.
I'll be posting that in the media section, and likely in this link as soon as possible.
A story on Matthew's work in the faculty of education at Memorial University of Newfoundland was featured on http://www.mun.ca and http://today.mun.ca
An excerpt:
Mr. White is one of only 25 lucky recipients worldwide to receive a scholarship to attend the 2009 Game Developers Conference in San Francisco. Currently writing his thesis on learning through the intervention of commercial, over-the-shelf games versus games developed strictly for the purpose of education, he has loved games all his life.
“Games occupy a significant part of my free time,” he said. “I’ve written a few programs for various institutions, and once I learned programming, I had a bunch of game ideas floating around in my head for years. Programs like RPG Maker and Game Maker sort of helped me entertain the possibility that I’d be a designer of some kind, and here I am.”
Mr. White is quite the Doogie Howser of PhD candidates (he turned 22 several months ago and is one of this country’s three youngest, according to Stats Canada). As far as career goals go, he’d like to work in education through games and simulations – either at a university or developing new software/hardware.

As some of you may know, the Aldrich Interdisciplinary Conference and Lecture Series is coming to Memorial University again this year in Mid March. I'll be there hopefully presenting on Needs Assessment for the design and/or implementation of games in classroom situations.
The conference is located at the MUN Campus, St. John's, NL. Proceedings should be available online about three weeks after the conference.
